How Technology Is Hindering Children At School.

Technology plays a central role in human life. It has always been a source of great progress and improvement in the quality of life for society. It is reasonable to think that technology can aid the teaching of our children. While technology has a place in the educational system, it also can play a damaging role if left unchecked.

In today’s society children are constantly bombarded by stimuli unheard of in past generations. Television, cell phones, tablets, Internet; it’s all overwhelming enough used recreationally. In a school, however, it can be even more harmful.

With all of the distractions that come with technology, students are having a harder and harder time remaining focused and undistracted. If this is an issue at home already, it will likely only get worse if used in schools. The temptations of abusing computers during class will be high; already students use cell phones obsessively, often to the detriment of their education and the education of their classmates.

Granted, technology is important and children must learn how to use technology for their future. However, students already know more about computers than most of their teachers! Limiting technology in the classroom will help students remain focused on the theories and topics they are there to learn about without the temptation of surfing the web.If you like what you see, keep going: Gifted Education in the 21st Century
